Karen was new to care in 2020. Read her story
This is Karen's first job in care after a career in retail.
I am a Community Carer.
Nothing in care, I was completely new to it when I started.
The variety. I like the fact you are pretty much a free agent, not tied to a desk, or behind a deli counter. I don’t ever have that " I don’t want to go work feeling" I love it.
Supporting people suits my character and caring personality. It opened eyes to what some people have to go through and made me even more
empathetic.
I have a busy schedule working full time, mostly split shifts. I start my visits at 7am go through the day following my schedule. I can do a variety of things such as making breakfast, going shopping, walking the dog, popping back to make lunch; beach walks if the weather is nice as well as more personal tasks. I often work on my own but do sometimes work on a double handed visit.
I enjoy anything to do with geography, lifestyles and nature. I'm avid watcher of Countryfile and I'm learning all about Hygge!
